OUR HISTORY
Jensen Electric Co. was founded in 1907 by Victor Jensen, a 22 year old Danish immigrant.
South Side Electric Supply Co. was established in the 1940s so that Victor, an electrician, could purchase copper during World War II.
Victor’s youngest son Norton, an engineer, joined in the late 1950s. Norton expanded the business into HVAC controls, which were relatively new at the time, in the 1960s.
Norton took interest in a new technology made by Honeywell called Series 90. The 135 ohm resistance based system provided modulating control without the need for a pneumatic system. Although its popularity has declined, Series 90 is still being used in buildings today.
South Side Control Supply Co. moved (there was only one branch!) from 5910 South Halstead Street to our current location at 488 North Milwaukee Avenue in 1969.
Eric, Norton’s son, joined the Company in 1995.
